Fire Risk Assessments

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) requires the Responsible Person of any non-domestic premise to carry out a fire risk assessment and provide an appropriate level of general fire precautions to reduce the risk of fire and consequential harm to persons in, or in the vicinity of, the premise.

Therefore, if you are the Responsible Person you must carry out a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment of the premise and review it regularly. For a workplace, the Responsible Person will be the employer and any other person who may have control over any part of the workplace e.g. the owner or occupier. Where there are 5 or more employees, a record must be kept of any significant findings.

The RRO has also introduced much greater accountability for managing fire safety in premises and this reinforces the importance of engaging experienced and competent fire engineers to ensure legal compliance.

Tenos fire risk assessment services

Tenos are able to carry out fire risk assessments to assist the Responsible Person in fulfilling their duties under the RRO. It is part of our on-going process for the effective management of fire safety within premises.

Why appoint Tenos to carry out a fire risk assessment?

In carrying out fire risk assessment surveys, we adhere to the requirements of ‘International Standard ISO/IEC 17020 – Conformity assessment – Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection’. This International Standard has been drawn up with the objective of promoting confidence in bodies performing inspection.

A Tenos fire risk assessment also captures current best practice following the principles of PAS 79:2012: ‘Fire risk assessment – Guidance and a recommended methodology’ published by BSI and is conducted in three parts:

  • A discussion with the Responsible Person’s representative;
  • A visual assessment of the premises;
  • A review of fire safety related records and a close-out meeting with the Responsible Person’s representative.

A Tenos fire risk assessment will provide a Responsible Person with a recommended action plan to assist in reducing or maintaining the level of fire safety risk.
