Sam first began working in the fire industry in 1991. He is a Chartered Fellow of The Institution of Fire Engineers, regularly works as an expert witness and has broad knowledge of the fire industry including fire engineering, fire investigation, Building Regulation Compliance, Insurance Loss Adjusting, fire research, fire risk assessments, fire resistance and reaction-to-fire testing, training and lecturing.

He has advised Government on fire safety matters (both the Department of Communities and Local Government and the Construction Unit of the Welsh Government).

Sam has conducted over 200 fire investigation cases focusing on issues such as spread of fire, fire testing, fire protection systems performance, Building Regulations compliance, fire and intruder detection systems. His fire safety design experience includes managing the design for fire safety in sectors including residential, office, hotel, education, healthcare, retail, industrial, sports/leisure, airports and rail. Schemes ranging from single storey buildings to a mixed-use development of US$750 million.
