Senior Fire Surveyor


Role overview

As a Tenos Senior Fire Surveyor you will be involved in a wide variety of interesting projects.  You will manage the outputs of your team; including quality, time and financial performance, whilst managing client relationships and expectations.

You will be working with Chartered Fire Engineers to assess and evaluate the adequacy of passive fire protection installations in buildings measured against fire tests reports, manufacturer’s literature and/or certification in order to determine compliance, or otherwise, with the statutory requirements. You will manage Projects situated across the UK which are varied in nature, such as Schools, Hospitals, Residential, etc.  

You will be involved in Site inspections, liaising with Clients, Contractors and generating inspection reports from an iPad using a proprietary software application. Tenos operate a Quality Management System which you will be responsible for across your team.

You will have the opportunity to mentor less experienced Surveyors and Engineers to help them develop their skills and knowledge as well as focusing on developing your own.

  • Principal Surveyor or above

Liaises with:

  • External: Responsible Persons, Project Managers, Representatives of Responsible Person, Contractors, Site Operatives and Construction workers
  • Internal: People and Planning Manager, Directors, Managers and Technical Colleagues

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Construction, surveying or engineering-based degree
  • Minimum 5 years practical experience of working in the construction industry, for example, in a Building Control or Quality Assurance capacity, including inspection and verification of passive fire protection
  • Professional registration with a Professional Engineering Institution
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Surveying software.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • CSCS card holder
  • Minimum 5 years Project management and reporting experience
  • Team management experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Full project cycle management of own projects and larger cross-team projects
  • Provide fire safety inspection and consultancy related services to Tenos clients
  • Maintain an up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of legislation, design standards, fire engineering and professional development
  • Manage client expectations
  • Report writing to include technical progress updates and constraints resourcing
  • Review Technical documents prepared by others
  • Sustain and build client relationships with an eye for future business opportunities
  • Prepare fee proposals
