The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) places a duty on the responsible person “to provide appropriate procedures…..and nominate a sufficient number of competent persons to implement these procedures to ensure the safety of all relevant persons”.  Nominated staff will generally include Fire Marshals who will have specific responsibilities in the event of a fire and will need more in depth knowledge than that provided by general fire awareness training.

In order that staff are fully prepared in the event of a fire, all employees should complete a general fire awareness course as part of their initial induction with a refresher course as appropriate.

The course should provide staff with sufficient knowledge to ensure their own safety along with that of other people on the premises in the event of a fire.
